Wealden’s Waste Collection Update

Friday 2nd June 2023 – Waste collection industrial action update, 10:57am

We sincerely regret that the strike by members of the GMB union working for Biffa in Wealden continues today.

We are pleased however to note the GMB union and Biffa will be attending mediation talks held by ACAS next Wednesday 7th June in an effort to resolve the dispute, end the strike action and the disruption to waste collection services for residents.

Unfortunately, whilst the strike continues today limited staff are available and some bin collection rounds will not be operating.

Whilst we sincerely hope this industrial action will be resolved with next week’s talks and please continue to check our daily updates for the latest information on collection services.

We apologise for any inconvenience that may be caused by this situation and thank you for your cooperation and understanding during this time.

The following are services that will be operating in full or in part today:

  • Rubbish and Recycling collections – Approximately 40% of the rounds scheduled to empty rubbish and recycling bins today are working.  Please put your bin out if you are due a collection today. If it is not emptied please leave it in place, including over the weekend, and until your next bin is due to be emptied as every effort will be made where possible to catch up on missed collections.  If its remains uncollected after this please take it back in and use the link below to our questions and answers to find out what to do.
  • Garden Waste Collections –  Approximately 25% of the rounds scheduled to empty garden waste bins today are working.  Please put your bin out if you are due a collection today. If it is not emptied please leave it in place, including over weekends, until your next garden waste collection is due as every effort will be made where possible to catch up on missed collections.  If its remains uncollected after this, please take it back in and use the questions and answers below to find out what to do.
  • Clinical waste and sharps box collections – operating as normal
  • Bulky Waste Collections – operating as normal
  • Bin deliveries and exchanges – operating as normal
  • Street litter bins and dog waste bins – operating as normal

We appreciate this continues to be an inconvenience and concern to residents and apologise for this situation while Biffa and the GMB union work to reach a resolution
