MCC Update – May 2023

Tenders for the Mayfield Community and Health Centre (MCC) have been received by Wealden District Council (WDC) which are to be considered by the joint (WDC and MCC) Project Board. However, WDC have confirmed that there will be a delay in communicating the findings due to a period known as ‘purdah’, which is when the District Council is not permitted to do anything or share any information which might influence the outcome of an upcoming election: a period we are now in due to the 4th May local elections. The Parish Council is working hard to access the required information and communicate the outcome as soon as possible after the elections.

In the meantime, we are pleased to be able to advise that the Parish Council has now signed a Deed of Dedication with Fields in Trust, which ensures that 12 acres of Court Meadow is now legally protected for recreational purposes in perpetuity.  The remaining 2 acres of land, currently occupied by the Memorial Hall, band hut and car park is outside of this agreement. This Deed brings to a conclusion the confusion which has lasted for over 80 years as to the legal protection afforded to Court Meadow since the land was acquired in 1935.

As mentioned in the April newsletter, the successful registration of the Mayfield Community Centre CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation) with the Charity Commission means that, in addition to managing the new community centre once it is constructed, it can commence to raise grants and donations for the new centre as and when appropriate.

Further information continues to be available on the MCC section of the Parish Council website www.mayfieldfiveashes.org.uk and village Facebook site, or contact the clerk to the council (clerk@mayfieldfiveashes.org.uk).
