Mayfield High Street combines beautiful medieval buildings with a wide range of shops that offer not just basic necessities but also local produce, local crafts, fashion and more.
Parts of St Dunstan's Church date from the 1250s while the oldest house dates from the early 1400s. There are a number of fine timber-framed buildings. Also prominent are a cannon, a reminder of the important local iron industry in the 1500s, and a prize-winning village sign. The village is rare for its size in having its own baker, butcher, florist, greengrocers, ironmongers, post office and mobile banking - and fortunate in having food shops that supply and promote local produce. In addition there are shops selling local arts and crafts as well as individual shops selling gifts, fashion, materials, furnishings among many other goods. There are cafes, a pub/restaurant/hotel plus a wide range of services.
